La Bodeguita del Centro
One of the cultural meeting points in Guatemala city, this place is more of a cultural project than a meeting point. It organizes debates and exhibitions, as well as live music shows ranging from the most perverted trends of rock to classical and jazz music concerts. There are performances virtually every day, but the main shows take place on weekends. The bar serves national drinks and delicious chicken sandwiches. Sometimes an admission fee is charged, so it is recommended to inquire in advance. The decor is eclectic with posters evoking different cultural events from Guatemala and other countries.
There's live music of some kind almost every night from Tuesday to Saturday, usually starting at 9pm, plus occasional poetry readings, films or forums. Entry is usually free Tuesday to Thursday, with a charge of Q25 to Q60 on Friday and Saturday nights. Food and drinks are served. Pick up a monthly schedule of events.
Opening hours: 9pm-1am Tuesday-Saturday
Entrance fee: Free Tuesday to Thursday
